Award Schemes

As well as the Archery GB classification scheme, there are other award schemes which  offer badges on achievement of certain scores in certain rounds or certain handicaps.

Outdoor Awards

252 Awards

These are awarded by the club upon shooting 2 qualifying scores for your chosen bow style and distance. The round is short (only 3 dozen arrows) and shot in accordance with the AGB Rules of Shooting for imperial rounds.  This means it must be the first round of the day with 6 'sighters' only - no other practise beforehand.

Only one round can be shot on a single day to claim this award and at one distance only.  It can be incorporated into the first three dozen arrows of a longer round, e.g:

National 40 round is four dozen arrows at 40yds and 2 dozen at 30yds.  You can complete the National 40 round and at the same time your first three dozen arrows at 40yds can be used to claim a 252 award.

The awards are designed to get beginners accustomed to shooting and scoring and to prepare them for the longer rounds and distances required for Archery GB classifications.

Indoor Awards

Portsmouth Awards

The club runs a badge scheme for anyone who submits Portsmouth scores to the records officers over the indoor season. The first badge is available with a score of 300, and with each increase in 25 points you can earn more badges. Unlike other schemes, you don't need to shoot the score 2-3 times to earn the badge - you get the badge on your first achievement of that score. The records officers will keep track of which badges you have earned and will award them to you in the earliest possible club session after submitting the score.

Welsh Archery Association (WAA) Indoor Handicap Awards

The Welsh Archery Association has an Indoor Handicap Award scheme. There are 6 badges to be obtained depending on your indoor handicap. Claims for these badges are made to WAA by the records officers - please speak to them at a club session if you are interested in participating in this scheme.
